This historic form of dance was first started by Scottish warriors. Men would perform the dances to display their strength, agility and stamina. Traditionally Highland dancing was only performed by men but now is mostly performed by women. The four most common dances you can expect to see at competitions are: The Highland Fling, The Sword Dance, The Reel of Tulloch and The Seann Triubhas. Highland dance requires strong technique and athleticism.
